Course Aims

The aim of the course is to introduce new members of staff or update existing staff with knowledge of Manual Handling and Patient Handling. This certificate will also help to increase self-motivation and confidence. 

Entry Requirements

On approval of the employer.  Candidates must attend 100% of the course.

Duration 

This is a 4-hour course, starting at approximately 9.30am and ending at 3pm. 

Assessment 

The students are assessed on the basis of their performance during the day. Successful candidates will be awarded a certificate of attendance.

Objective 

 Successful completion of the course will enable candidates to: 

  •  Identify clients needs

  •  Quickly and efficiently select the appropriate lifting method

  •  Used approved lifting techniques to reduce risk of back injury

  •  Understand reasoning for reducing amount of lifting required

  •  Improve knowledge of spine and back

Syllabus 

The Course syllabus consists of:           

  •  General introduction to regulations

  •  Introduction to patient handling

  •  The spine and its parts

  •  The basic lifting technique

  •  Lifting equipment

  •  Class practice of methods used

  •  Group work using case studies
